They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big f***ing deal.
She better get used to me.

Vicious was my second L.J. Shen novel – Defy (Sinners of Saint, #0.5) was my first – and I immensely enjoyed reading this book. I felt a roller coaster of emotions while reading Vicious and Emilia’s story, but I thought L.J. Shen did a great job with every aspect of it. I loved that the author wrote Vicious and Emilia’s story from both of their points of view. I loved getting to see what both characters were thinking and feeling throughout the story. It endeared me more to each character, and I was very glad the author chose to write it this way. There were a few parts that I didn’t care for all that much, but every novel has its good and bad moments, and this book was no different.

Vicious and Emilia, though both struggling in their own ways (Vicious more than Emilia), were a perfect match and I couldn’t help but root for them to work out as a couple. I was hooked to their story almost from the very beginning and just had to keep reading to see what happened between them. I wasn’t thrilled with the way Vicious treated Emilia when they were both eighteen and then ten years later when she started working for him, but after learning what a horrible childhood he endured, my heart softened up to him the farther into the book I read. He definitely redeemed himself towards the end and I was very happy with the outcome to Vicious and Emilia’s story. I’m definitely looking forward to reading Dean and Rosie’s story in Ruckus, and learning more about the Four HotHoles and their significant others!

FIVE “Black and Pink” STARS!
