From the #1 New York Times, USA TODAY and internationally bestselling author of the fantastical Dark Elements and the Lux series comes a new novel set in a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

Review

NO SPOILERS!

Storm and Fury was a fun, adventurous, and entertaining start to the all-new Harbinger series, a spin-off to the Dark Elements series from Jennifer L. Armentrout. I loved the storyline and characters, and Armentrout’s signature writing style and sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the world of Wardens, demons, and other supernatural beings, and loved getting to see a few familiar characters again.

The storyline was interesting and entertaining. It had been a while since I had been immersed in the world of Wardens and other supernatural beings, and it was great to come back. The plot was different than I first expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a few parts that I didn’t like as much, but otherwise it was entertaining from beginning to end. The author threw in a plot twist towards the end that I wasn’t expecting, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the Harbinger series.

The characters were amazing. Jennifer L. Armentrout always delivers sassy, sarcastic, bada** heroines and dominant, protective alpha heroes. Zayne and Trinity were the perfect combination of all those traits and more, and I loved them so much. I loved Zayne and Trinity’s personalities and connection together, and how most of their relationship progressed throughout. I would’ve loved a little more romance to be incorporated, but I know paranormal stories are usually based around the paranormal aspect, not the romance. I wished the story had been told from both Zayne and Trinity’s point of view instead of just Trinity’s, but I still loved reading it from her perspective. I also loved the banter and interactions between Zayne and Trinity, and look forward to seeing how their relationship progresses throughout the series.

Storm and Fury was a fun and entertaining intro to the Harbinger series, and I would definitely recommend it! Jennifer L. Armentrout created an engaging plot with humor, sarcasm, mystery, and suspense, and lovable characters you couldn’t help but root for. I loved the first book in the Harbinger series, and can’t wait to continue Zayne and Trinity’s story in the next installment!
