Do you need a proofreader?

First impressions are extremely important, and you usually only get one chance to make a great one. If you are ready to publish, or have already published, your novel and are looking for a second pair of eyes to do a final once-over on your manuscript, you’ve come to the right person.

Proofreading is a passion of mine and I pride myself in providing a thorough, professional, and affordable line-by-line proofing in a timely and efficient manner. I am only human, but I strive for perfection in my work and pay great attention to detail, and I will do my absolute best to mark any and all spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, as well as other common mistakes and inconsistencies sometimes easily overlooked in your manuscript. I use the Merriam-Webster dictionary for reference, unless directed otherwise.

If you use my proofreading service for published works and are happy with my work on your manuscript, I would greatly appreciate a reference on the copyright page. I would also be grateful if you could provide a short testimonial that I can post on my website and social media. I will link your website or Amazon page, whichever you prefer, in the testimonial.

**Proofreading is the FINAL step and should only be done after ALL of your edits are complete. Please ensure your manuscript has already been completely edited before sending it to me for proofreading. I reserve the right to return a manuscript if there are editing issues.**

What does my proofreading service provide?

What manuscripts do I accept?

I accept manuscripts in most genres, however, I have the most experience proofreading romantic fiction, especially Young Adult, New Adult, and Adult Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy, Sports Romance, Romantic Suspense, etc.

I accept manuscripts in the following format:

  • Microsoft Word Document

I use the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word to mark any errors I may come across in your manuscript. That way it will be easier for you to review any changes you may need to make before publication. No manuscript is 100% perfect, so I highly encourage the author to carefully review the final manuscript before publishing.

How long does it take?

The time frame to proofread your manuscript will vary depending on the word count and severity of the corrections that need to be marked. Turnaround time is usually 2-4 days.

Scheduling: I try to be as flexible as I can for authors. Depending on my schedule and availability, I may or may not be able to fit you in right away, but I will try to accommodate your schedule the best that I can. Feel free to book as early as you’d like. The earlier you contact me in advance, the better.

Please Note: Once you have booked your manuscript for proofreading, please send it to me via email by no later than 8 a.m. EST on your scheduled date. You may send the manuscript to me anytime after initial booking, but that does not guarantee I will be able to start proofreading it before your scheduled date.

What is my rate?

My rate is $.0035 USD per word.

Example #1: $.0035 x 50,000 words = $175

Example #2: $.0035 x 80,000 words = $280

I round to the nearest dollar amount.

A $25 deposit is due upon booking to hold the author’s manuscript in the schedule. The deposit will go toward the author’s total cost. It is nonrefundable unless the author cancels or reschedules at least 48 hours in advance of his or her scheduled date.

Payment/Cancellation Policy

Payments are only accepted via PayPal. Due to PayPal’s policy regarding fees and currency conversion, I ONLY accept authors located in the United States. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Payment: Once you have scheduled your manuscript for proofreading, I will send you an invoice via PayPal for the $25 nonrefundable deposit. After I have received your manuscript via email by or on your scheduled proofread date, and I have confirmed word count and total price with you, I will then send you a final invoice via PayPal, minus the $25 nonrefundable deposit. 100% of your fee is due upon receipt. Work will begin once I have received full payment, and your proofread manuscript will be returned to you in the allotted time we agreed upon.

Cancellations: If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify me at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled proofread date. If I fail to receive your manuscript, or you do not cancel or request rescheduling at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled proofread date, a $25 nonrefundable fee will incur. By submitting your manuscript and the proofreading form, you are agreeing to these terms.

I, Julia G. from The Romance Bibliophile, take every precaution in my work, however, it is the obligation of the author to check and approve all changes I make to your manuscript. The ultimate responsibility for the final published manuscript rests solely with the author. I disclaim all liability for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from the use of edited material.
