~Synopsis~

When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

~Review~

I feel like I tend to say some of the same things in my reviews,  so I apologize for any repetitiveness, but “City of Lost Souls” was a truly spectacular fifth installment in the Mortal Instruments series! It was intriguing, interesting, and captivating, and I loved reading every single page. Cassandra Clare certainly has an extraordinary talent and effortless ability to make her readers fall in love with every aspect of the storyline and characters from the very beginning, and she had me completely hooked throughout. I wholeheartedly loved Jace, Clary, Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, and almost all of the other characters – with the exception of Sebastian, who I hated with a vengeance – even more in this book, and I loved learning and discovering more about them and their relationships together. They all had wonderful personalities and chemistry together, and I loved their interactions and banter with each other. I also loved reading more parts of the book from all of their POV, and getting to see more of Brother Zachariah – since I know his true identity. :) There were plenty of surprising and shocking twists and turns throughout the entire novel that were sometimes pleasant, and other times not-so-pleasant. All in all “City of Lost Souls” was an epic fifth installment full of humor, romance, action and adventure, drama, and suspense, and the ending definitely left me craving for the last novel in the series, “City of Heavenly Fire.” Cassandra Clare has truly done a phenomenal job with this series so far and I absolutely cannot wait to read more!
