Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.

After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.

From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule.…

~Review~

The Matchmaker’s Playbook was my first Rachel Van Dyken novel, and I really enjoyed her writing style and the story she created. The concept was definitely unique, one that I hadn’t ever read before, and I thought she did an excellent job with all of it. It was intriguing and entertaining, and I enjoyed reading every single page. I could tell she must have done a lot of research for the book, because it really showed in every aspect of the story.

Rachel did a fantastic job with the characters as well. I loved Ian and Blake’s personalities and chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout the story. I also immensely enjoyed the humor, sarcasm, romance, and playful banter amongst all of the characters. Lex and Gabi were great additions to the story as well and made it much more lively and entertaining. I’m definitely looking forward to reading their story next in The Matchmaker’s Replacement.

I wished the book had been told in both Ian and Blake’s POV, instead of just Ian’s, because I usually enjoy dual points of view the most. However, it was interesting to read all of it from the hero’s POV. It definitely gave a refreshing new perspective that you usually don’t see in novels, and for that reason I really enjoyed it. All in all, The Matchmaker’s Playbook was an amazing read and I would highly recommend giving it a try!
